TAMIN-LEE CONNOLLY
I was born in Nelspruit, South Africa in 1981. I first grew up on my farm near Sabie before my dad was recruited to Indonesia. I was at the young age of 12. I moved to Malaysia and attended The International School of Penang (UPLANDS) but also travelled South East Asia. I was known back then as ‘the jungle girl’ for my wild and wacky ways! I completed my high schooling in Malaysia before going back to South Africa to study my degree in Physical Education and Sports Science. I taught all over South Africa and travelled extensively over Southern Africa, beginning my journey in life as a volunteer and charity worker. This inspiration sparked in me my desire and dream of making a bigger difference in the world through education. I moved to the United Arab Emirates in 2008 to help kick start that dream!
It was in the UAE that I worked my ass off to plan and prepare for my Big Mama Africa Expedition! I’ve managed to volunteer with ‘One Laptop Per Child’ foundation, and from hundreds of interviews after interviews to gain sponsorship, to acquire my goal of 5000 laptops. I am now ready, if that’s possible, to begin making my dream come true…

I was born in Rome, Italy in 1980. The daughter of a diplomat, I lived in 4 countries and traveled all over the world, eventually settling in South Africa to study my BA degree in Information Science and English. I then continued my education in Vienna, Austria, studying my Post Graduate Certificate in Education. I landed in Mexico in 2005 for my first teaching job. I have since moved on to New Zealand and then the United Arab Emirates, teaching at various International Schools along the way. In 2009 I met Tamin, who evidently changed my life! With my background, she invited me to join her on this ‘experience of a lifetime’ and who am I to turn down that offer! This is the next big adventure that I am looking forward to beginning as I start the next big phase in my life…the age of the thirties!
JEROEN BERGHUIS: Joining for 1 month
I first met Tamin in 2009 and have gotten to know her and her action packed lifestyle quite well. I have often gone desert driving with her, always making sure I stayed clear from her car… Through these 2 years I have gotten to know all about her expedition and have since decided to volunteer and be a part of this wonderful achievement. I’ll buy a motorcycle and driving alongside Tamin and Justine for a month through Mozambique (and maybe even further north…). Definitely once in a lifetime territory!
